Important Disclaimer
SerialCheck is an independent, community-driven serial number registry. It is not an official government, law enforcement, or police database. Information listed on SerialCheck is submitted by members of the public and has not been independently verified. A listing on this site does not constitute proof of ownership, proof of theft, or an official report of any kind. If you are a victim of theft, always report the matter to your local police.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the SerialCheck website at serialcheck.com.au ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not use the Site. We recommend that you review these Terms periodically, as your continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of any changes.
2. Description of Service
SerialCheck provides a free, community-driven online registry where users can record the serial numbers of their personal property and report items as stolen. Members of the public may also search the registry to check whether a serial number has been flagged.
SerialCheck is not a substitute for reporting theft to police or any other law enforcement agency. The Site does not verify the accuracy of user-submitted information and makes no representations regarding the ownership or status of any item listed in the registry.
3. Account Registration
To register items or report stolen property on SerialCheck, you must create an account. When registering, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information;
- Maintain the security of your password and account credentials;
- Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account;
- Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.
You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. SerialCheck reserves the right to refuse registration or cancel an account at its discretion.
4. User Responsibilities and Data Accuracy
You are solely responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and legality of any information you submit to SerialCheck, including but not limited to serial numbers, item descriptions, and theft reports. By submitting information, you represent and warrant that:
- You are the rightful owner of the item or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf;
- The information you provide is truthful and accurate to the best of your knowledge;
- Any theft report you submit relates to a genuine incident that has been (or will be) reported to the relevant authorities.
SerialCheck does not independently verify user submissions and accepts no liability for inaccurate, misleading, or fraudulent listings.
5. Prohibited Uses
You must not use SerialCheck to:
- Submit false or fraudulent theft reports;
- Claim ownership of items that do not belong to you;
- Harass, intimidate, defame, or threaten any person;
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or to the Site's systems;
- Use the Site for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms;
- Scrape, harvest, or collect data from the Site by automated means without prior written consent;
- Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the Site.
We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action, including suspending or terminating your account and reporting conduct to law enforcement, if we reasonably believe you have engaged in any prohibited use.
6. Intellectual Property
All content, design, graphics, trademarks, and software on the Site are the property of SerialCheck or its licensors and are protected by Australian and international intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Site without our prior written consent.
By submitting content to SerialCheck (such as item descriptions or images), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, display, and store that content for the purposes of operating and improving the Site.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SerialCheck and its operators, officers, employees, and agents:
- Make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or timeliness of any information on the Site;
- Do not warrant that stolen items listed on the Site will be located or recovered;

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any consumer guarantee or right that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)).
8. Disputes Between Users
SerialCheck is a platform and does not act as an arbiter in disputes between users. If a dispute arises between you and another user regarding ownership of an item or the accuracy of a listing, you agree to resolve that dispute directly with the other party or through the appropriate legal channels. SerialCheck may, at its sole discretion, remove or modify listings that are the subject of a dispute, but is under no obligation to do so.
9. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account and access to the Site at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or engaged in conduct that is harmful to other users, the Site, or third parties. Upon termination, your right to use the Site ceases immediately. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including limitation of liability and governing law) will remain in effect.
10. Changes to Terms
SerialCheck reserves the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales and any courts entitled to hear appeals from those courts.
